23andMe is looking for a full stack software developer to join our growing Genomic Data Sciences team! You will work closely with our Bioinformatics, Research Project Management, and Genomics teams to develop specialized applications that enable the discovery and investigation of disease targets using genetics.

What You'll Do

  • Design and deploy cutting-edge applications to expose genetic and phenotypic insights and opportunities to research partners using both internal and external analysis results
  • Assess, identify, and deploy open source or commercial applications to rapidly deliver industry-standard capabilities to a diverse set of researchers
  • Ensure a superior research user experience for evaluating insights derived from the world’s largest recontactable genetic database
  • Work with internal and external engineers to deliver and maintain a suite of scientific applications and visualizations
  • Execute and participate in the creation of application roadmaps, development lifecycles, and release plans
  • Collaborate with other data engineers, bioinformaticians, and biologists to improve usability and communicate complex concepts
  • Aid with machine learning and data engineering teams to present complex data for discoverability and exploration
  • Write technical documentation and translate technically complex information for non-technical stakeholders
  • Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies

What You’ll Bring

  • 5+ years of proven work experience as a full stack developer
  • Passion for current and best practices designing and creating applications with consideration for the full stack architecture and user experience
  • Extensive experience creating scientific or data-centric applications with a focus on genetics and genomics
  • Strong knowledge of modern front-end technologies, HTML, and CSS, including layout, specificity, cross browser compatibility, and accessibility
  • Comfort and experience integrating existing open-source applications and datasets into internal ecosystems with an eye toward superior user experience
  • Familiarity with quality control, testing, and release management
  • Deep understanding of layout aesthetics and data visualization
  • In-depth knowledge of the entire web development process
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to perform well in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Ability to work from 23andMe’s office in South San Francisco or Sunnyvale three (3) days per week

Strongly Preferred

  • Experience with leadership in Agile software development lifecycle
  • Experience with common scripting languages (R, or Python preferred)
  • Experience in working with SQL and NoSQL database systems as well as GraphQL
  • Prior experience working in secure or air-gapped environments
  • Familiarity working with distributed or high-performance computing systems

Pay Transparency
23andMe takes a market-based approach to pay, and amounts will vary depending on your geographic location. The salary range reflected here is for a candidate based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
