Awards & Recognition:
Position: Lead Unity Engineer (Simulation & Tooling)
As our new Lead Unity Engineer, you will be a technical and people leader. You will mentor a small, cross‑functional team of simulation and tooling engineers, set standards for automated quality assurance (AQA) and stability, and architect the next generation of content creation tools that power our 3D and VR training platform.
Why this role matters:
- Shape the future of EdTech & Industrial Training: Your leadership will drive high‑impact tooling that accelerates content production and elevates training quality.
- Develop people: Coach engineers from diverse technical backgrounds, champion career growth, and foster an environment of continuous learning.
- Own quality & stability: Define and scale AQA practices across large‑scale Unity projects to ensure robust, reliable simulations.
What you will do:
- Lead & mentor: Coach and guide a small team of Unity engineers: write Architectural Decision Records and run technical reviews, pair program, conduct regular 1:1s, and steward career development plans.
- Architect AQA & stability: Design, implement, and improve automated testing frameworks (unit tests, integration tests, automated simulation stress) to verify functionality, performance, and stability at scale.
- Build Unity Editor tools: Develop custom tooling with Unity editor extensions, web based tools and no‑code frameworks that streamline pipelines for artists, designers, and instructors.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally: Partner closely with content designers, simulation engineers, and QA specialists to identify pain points and deliver user‑centric tooling solutions.
- Set best practices: Establish and maintain coding standards, code‑review processes, CI/CD pipelines (build automation, artifact management), and version control workflows tailored for Unity projects.
- Drive technical strategy: Evaluate emerging Unity features, QA tools, and automation approaches, and recommend and pilot new technologies.
Who you are:
- Proven leader & mentor: 3+ years managing or technically leading small engineering teams, with a track record of growing engineers’ skills and careers.
- Unity tooling expert: Deep experience developing and maintaining Unity editor extensions, custom inspectors, and workflow automation solutions.
- AQA & stability champion: Built and maintained large‑scale automated testing suites for Unity projects—unit/integration tests, simulation performance tests, and reliability benchmarks.
- Cross‑disciplinary collaborator: Skilled at translating complex technical needs into intuitive tools for non‑engineers (artists, instructional designers, instructors).
- Full‑stack mindset: Comfortable designing end‑to‑end solutions; familiarity with APIs, build pipelines, and cloud‑hosted services (GCP/AWS/Azure) is a plus.
- AI evangelist: Experienced in championing AI-powered development tools (e.g. code assistants, automation pipelines) to accelerate engineering workflows and drive team adoption.
- Excellent communicator: Can present technical concepts clearly, facilitate team discussions, and write concise documentation.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of Unity development experience, with an emphasis on editor tooling and workflow automation.
- 3+ years of leadership or technical lead experience, including mentoring and career development.
- Demonstrated success in designing and scaling automated testing frameworks for Unity.
- Strong problem‑solving skills: analyzing bottlenecks, architecting scalable solutions, and automating repetitive tasks.
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer without stipulations and be residents of the United States.
- The company conducts background checks after extending offers of employment. These screenings are performed by third-party specialists. All roles require I-9 verification, E-Verify, a background check, and a drug and alcohol test. Additionally, depending on the position, candidates may undergo employment history verification, DMV record check, reference checks, education and credential verification, and a credit history review.
You’ll have an edge if you have:
- Experience in EdTech, serious game development, or simulation platforms.
- Familiarity with VR development and 3D simulation environments.
- Experience using custom hardware (e.g., motion trackers, haptic devices, specialized controllers) within Unity projects.
- Prior exposure to web technologies (React, TypeScript) for internal tool UIs and integrating with Unity through WebViews.
- Experience using Electron to build desktop tooling interfaces.
- Cloud infrastructure and CI/CD (GitLab, Jenkins, etc.) for build and deployment pipelines.
Pay: $130,000
