Auditor / Accountant | Public Accounting – Nonprofit Audit

Paro is partnering with an established public accounting firm in Washington, D.C. to hire an experienced Auditor / Accountant to join its growing audit practice.
Our client has been serving organizations for more than 35 years and specializes in audits for nonprofit organizations. This is an excellent opportunity for an audit professional who enjoys owning engagements, working directly with clients, and building deeper expertise in nonprofit and compliance auditing.
What You’ll Do
- Plan, lead, and execute nonprofit financial statement audits, reviews, and compilations
- Perform Single Audits and compliance testing, including major program determination and cost principles
- Conduct audit testing across internal controls, cash, A/R, A/P, capital assets, and expense accounts
- Perform compliance audits in accordance with GAGAS and applicable federal standards
- Prepare and review audit workpapers and support audit conclusions
- Draft audit reports and communicate findings, deficiencies, and recommendations to clients
- Review and analyze financial statements, trial balances, general ledgers, and journal entries
- Build strong client relationships and serve as a key point of contact throughout engagements
- Coach and mentor junior staff and interns during audit engagements
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 3–5+ years of public accounting, audit, or related financial experience
- Hands-on experience performing financial statement audits for nonprofit organizations
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, GAGAS, and SAS auditing standards
- Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing client deadlines
- Strong analytical, communication, and client-facing skills
- Proficiency with Excel and accounting/audit software
Preferred
- Active CPA license or currently pursuing CPA certification
- Experience leading audit teams or multiple concurrent engagements
- Experience with nonprofit grant compliance auditing
- Familiarity with CCH Axcess, Thomson Reuters Engagement Manager, Sage, and/or QuickBooks
Compensation & Work Environment
💰 $100,000–$125,000, based on experience and qualifications
