About the role:

Revalia is pioneering Human Data Trials — a new paradigm for accelerating translational medicine by linking donated human organs to cutting-edge research. Our platform provides biotech, pharma, and medtech innovators with unparalleled access to human biology at scale, reducing reliance on animal models and speeding the path to patients.

We are seeking a highly skilled, adaptable Surgical Specialist to join our team on a per diem basis. This role is critical to supporting our organ research programs through on-call cannulation, surgical preparation, and initiation of ex vivo perfusion workflows.

The ideal candidate is technically proficient, responsive, and comfortable operating in dynamic procedural environments requiring rapid decision-making and adaptability.

Location

This position is on-site in New Haven, CT. Availability for on-call cases including nights, weekends, and short-notice acceptances is required.


Job Type: This is a per diem, on-call position. Cases may arise with short notice, requiring rapid response. Variable case duration depending on organ type and study protocol.

Technical Skill Requirements

  • Demonstrated proficiency in cannulation of donor organs including liver, kidney, and lung, and vascular access for ex vivo perfusion circuits.
  • Strong working knowledge of human anatomy, vascular structures, organ handling, and sterile technique in procedural environments.
  • Experience with organ procurement, transplant surgery, vascular cannulation, back-table preparation, or equivalent high-acuity procedural settings.

Responsibilities

  • Perform or assist with cannulation of donor organs, including liver, kidney, and lung, and establish vascular access for connection to ex vivo perfusion circuits.
  • Support organ procurement and back-table preparation as needed in coordination with the research team.
  • Collaborate closely with perfusionists and research teams to ensure timely initiation of perfusion workflows.
  • Troubleshoot anatomical and technical challenges impacting flow and cannulation in real time.
  • Maintain sterile technique and adhere to all clinical, research, and regulatory standards throughout every case.
  • Participate in on-call coverage, including nights, weekends, and short-notice case acceptances.
  • Communicate case updates and relevant observations to perfusionists and research leads in a clear and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of cannulation procedures, case timelines, and any technical issues encountered.
  • Support continuous improvement of surgical protocols and workflows in collaboration with the research and operations team.
  • Participate in ex vivo perfusion system setup and troubleshooting as directed by the perfusion team.

Qualifications

  • Clinical training in a relevant field (e.g., Surgery, Surgical Assistant, PA, NP, or equivalent procedural specialty)
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree required
  • Strong working knowledge of human anatomy, vascular structures, and organ handling
  • Demonstrated experience with sterile technique and procedural environments
  • Experience with organ procurement, transplant surgery, vascular cannulation, or similar procedures strongly preferred
  • Ability to perform or assist with vascular access and cannulation in time-sensitive settings
  • Comfort working in high-acuity, fast-paced environments with variable conditions
  • Strong technical judgment and problem-solving skills related to anatomy and flow dynamics
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
  • Willingness to respond to on-call cases with short notice

Preferred:

  • Experience in transplant surgery, organ procurement, or surgical recovery procedures
  • Hands-on experience with vascular cannulation, back-table preparation, and organ handling
  • Prior experience with ex vivo organ perfusion systems (liver, lung, or kidney)
  • Experience working in high-acuity procedural or surgical environments
  • Background in translational research or preclinical/clinical study support

Compensation for this role is competitive and structured on a per diem hourly basis, depending on experience.
