About The Role
We are currently seeking a talented R&D Tax Manager to join our Tax team. This role is designed to support our startup clients who need R&D Tax help. We work with growth-stage technology startups; usually, Seed through Series C funded. As R&D Tax Manager, you will help clients identify eligible R&D activities and prepare effective supporting documentation for several clients. In this role, you will develop a standardized approach that includes the use of various analyzer and optimization tools.
Responsibilities
- Researching, gathering data, and analyzing R&D tax matters and financial reports.
- Leading interaction with the client’s Subject Matter Experts (SME) to understand and identify qualified activities to substantiate the R&D tax credit in accordance with IRC Sections 41 and 174.
- Preparing documents as required.
- Performing quantitative and qualitative research, including project write-ups, base periods, department overviews, and methodology memos.
- Analyzing client data to compute federal and state R&D tax credits.
- Managing projects including scheduling and client correspondence.
- Developing and sustaining excellent client relationships during the delivery of R&D tax credit services
- Assisting with audit representation including drafting responses and working with the IRS to resolve client matters.
- Assist with automation of the R&D process.
Requirements
- 5+ years overall experience working with R&D Tax Issues within a CPA firm, law firm or corporation. Note this is a HARD requirement.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting/ finance/taxation/business administration
- Practical knowledge of R&D tax issues handling projects including tax credit studies and related activities
- Prior experience managing engagements working with R/D deductions and credits including - but not limited to - IRS code sections 174 & 41
- P ast experience dealing directly with taxing authorities including the IRS and State Comptroller's office
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Base Salary
Your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below stated range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location. Zeni uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Additionally, Zeni leverages current market data to determine compensation, so posted compensation figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. The salary, other compensation, and benefits information is accurate as of the date of this posting. Zeni reserves the right to modify this information at any time, subject to applicable law.
Range: $102,000-$139,000

Travel Requirements - The team participates in quarterly offsites in various locations across the US to plan, collaborate, learn and celebrate with each other. All standard travel expenses are covered by Zeni.
