Zeni is building an AI powered finance team for start-ups. We are innovating financial maintenance and management into a Zen-like experience for our customers. Zeni is looking for a Controller to be a Zen master with regards to finance applications and financial reporting. The Controller will lead with technology and drive automation of daily financial updates using Zeni’s finance platform and accounting support teams. The Controller will work closely with emerging and all-star founders and teams, driving customer success and enabling Zeni’s customers to scale.
Work directly with founders and start-up teams to understand their business and financial model
Manage a customer portfolio of SaaS and technology-based start-ups, taking ownership of customer revenue growth and customer profitability
Manage a team of remote resources, driving the team to own daily and monthly close processes, reconciliations and classifications
Utilize Zeni’s platform and technology to drive automation of customer processes and integration of financial applications
Guide customers in the collection and use of data to optimize Zeni’s AI reporting platform, empowering budget vs. actual analysis, forecasts and KPI reporting
Educate customers and founders on U.S. GAAP accounting, financial statements and financial metrics for technology companies
Drive customer success, anticipating customer needs and responding to customer requests as the finance function for the customer
Train and mentor accounting managers, senior accountants and staff to complete daily, monthly and annual accounting and reporting processes
Enable Zeni sales growth by assisting customers in scaling their business and supporting additional Zeni services
7-10 years of experience in an accounting, accounting outsource provider or CPA firm
Strong experience managing teams of 5+ accounting professionals and drive ownership of deliverables by support teams (Bonus: managing offshore remote employees)
Managing a diverse customer portfolio of SaaS-based, e-commerce, inventory and other tech start-ups
Undergraduate or Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance
CPA or MBA, Accounting or Finance concentration
Tech savvy with experience in Quickbooks, Bill.com, Gusto, Expensify and other leading cloud-based finance applications for start-ups
Strong knowledge and application of GAAP, ASC 606 revenue recognition, consolidations, and equity compensation and other areas of accounting for SaaS companies
Experience in coaching founders at various stages of development, recommending solutions, and guiding the timing of key deliverables as companies grow
Strong oral and written communication skills and comfortable working with teams in client-facing role
Experience using Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, and Slides) and advanced Excel skills

Your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below stated range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location. Zeni uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Additionally, Zeni leverages current market data to determine compensation, so posted compensation figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Salary Range: $110,000-150,000 with an annual bonus target of up to 20% of base salary
