We are seeking an accountant with significant experience working in the Private Equity (PE) or Venture Capital (VC) industries to join Zeni’s new Venture Capital Practice in the position of Assistant Team Lead. The candidate should possess strong knowledge and application of US GAAP and experience handling the accounting of the management company entity of PE or VC firms. The candidate should be familiar with PE or VC terminology, PE/VC entity structures, and PE/VC management company accounting practices.

Zeni has hundreds of start-up and enterprise customers in the SAAS space and other business verticals, and currently has several VC customers. The hire for the VC Practice will serve as the lead accountant for all existing VC customers and play an important role along with other team members in enhancing and refining the VC-focused product and services and scaling the VC Practice. The VC Practice is expected to be a valuable component of the Zeni business, not only because of its scaling potential but also as a channel for bringing in VC portfolio companies to Zeni as customers. As the VC Practice scales, we plan to hire additional to the team, and ultimately, you will play a vital role in training and mentoring a team of accountants and work closely with the startup founders and resolve their queries.


  • Work/engage closely with customers – specifically VC firms for whom Zeni manages management company accounting - to ensure sound and accurate accounting and booking, categorization of transactions, and meeting of other customer needs.
  • Embrace and enjoy working with new technology powered by AI, machine learning and cutting-edge automation.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff and senior-level accountants within the VC Practice team.
  • Manage multiple VC customers at varying sizes (i.e., first-time fund managers to VC firms with multiple funds
  • Review existing chart of accounts of fund management companies and proposeonboarding Zeni VC Practice customers.
  • Maintain fund management company general ledgers, including but not limited to recording of expenses and journal entries.
  • Make and oversee accurate expense allocations (allocations among manager expenses, fund expenses, deal expenses, organizational expenses) so that the fund management companies can appropriately invoice their funds for reimbursements on a regular/timely basis.
  • Review and prepare/manage balance sheet schedules of fund management companies.
  • Oversee Zeni team handling A/P and expense reimbursements for Zeni VC Practice customers.
  • Review and/or perform full cycle month-end close and reporting for the fund management company of each Zeni VC Practice customer.
  • Review and confirm transactions for accuracy and completeness.
  • Be proactive when approaching, anticipating, and resolving customer requests.
  • Be a team player that collaborates with and helps others whenever or wherever needed.
  • Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
  • 7-9 years of applicable experience required, including at least 3-4+ years of accounting experience at a venture capital or private equity firm.
  • Familiarity with the terminology, entity structures, and management company accounting practices of PE/VC firms – for example, management fee revenue recognition, management fee offsets, fund expense allocations, management company capitalization/ownership structures, and management company loans to partners/team members for fund capital contributions.
  • CA/CPA/CMA/MBA, Accounting or Finance concentration preferred
  • 5+ years of direct experience working in high-tech startup preferred completing full cycle monthly close and reporting
  • Big 4 accounting experience a plus
  • Strong knowledge and application of US GAAP required
  • Ability to interpret and apply PCC pronouncements and guidelines
  • Experience completing and/or preparing records for due diligence and/or external audits a plus
  • Experience implementing and maintaining Quickbooks Online, Expensify, and Gusto, including system integrations
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) are a must.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and priority management skills
  • Self-motivated and able to juggle multiple tasks, projects and clients
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite (Docs, Sheets) required;Perks (India)
