Lead AI Engineer (Software Engineer)

Help us shape the AI narrative at Spectro Cloud. Both internally and in our products.

Who We Are

Spectro Cloud aims to make infrastructure boundaryless for the enterprise, from data center to edge and every platform in between. We provide solutions that help enterprises deploy applications on Kubernetes, their way, anywhere.

Established by a team of multi-cloud management experts and industry veterans with a track record of success, we're at the forefront of multi-cloud management solutions. What makes us stand out is our team's commitment and strong backing from industry-leading investors, driving our progress. Our collective focus is on delivering unmatched value that resonates with our customers, and you can take pride in being involved with it.

What’s The Job?

As a Lead AI engineer, you will primarily lead internal efforts to advance AI adoption across the company. You will also help research, develop, and maintain AI capabilities within our products.

You will work closely with our AI Product Manager, Head of AI, and several other engineering teams. You will be the first hire on the AI team and will help shape the team norms and team culture. You will mentor and guide future team members as the team grows. This is a highly technical role that requires real-world experience in maintaining and developing production applications.

This role will require you to wear different hats; one moment you are building a technical solution, the next you may be engaging with risk compliance and legal to help define the guardrails for a product or tool rollout. You will lead proof-of-concept initiatives, engage with employees during AI Office Hours to provide advice, and work with our internal partners to establish AI processes and guardrails.

You are expected to have experience with various AI/ML workflows and AI development practices, primarily to advise, but also to shape the future of our products. We are an infrastructure-focused software company, so you are expected to have a strong understanding of infrastructure, spanning cloud and bare-metal environments.

You should be comfortable creating automation solutions, with and without AI, that help us build guardrails and controls. Experience deploying and managing applications in a production environment will help guide you when proposing and creating sustainable solutions.

We are seeking technical leaders who are self-starters and eager to help shape the future of this new team. We’re looking for someone with a strong technical background and several years of experience who isn't afraid to share recommendations and guidance on AI initiatives and adoption within an organization. We face several unknowns that we must tackle together. If you enjoy working in a highly technical environment with autonomy, at a rapid pace, and with regular challenges, then this role is right for you.

This role is open to all U.S locations. The total on-target earnings range for this role is between $140 -180k/year.

Work Authorization/Visa: Applicants are required to be eligible to lawfully work in the U.S. immediately; employer is unable to sponsor applicants for U.S. work authorization (e.g., H-1B visa) for this opportunity.

Qualifications and Experience

We don’t expect the ideal candidate to check every box, but the items below are things we look for when reviewing candidates. Do not let this discourage you from applying.

  • A Bachelor's Degree or an Advanced Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a similar field.

  • At least 6 years of experience as a Software Engineer, SRE, ML Engineer, Solutions Architect, or similar technical role is required.

  • At least 6+ years of experience maintaining and building production applications.

  • At least 4+ years of experience leading other engineers. This is not a management role, but you will help build out the AI team and provide mentoring.

  • You must have broad knowledge and experience across AI topics, including agent-based systems, model tuning, model deployment, MCP server development, and more.

  • Highly proficient with at least one of the following programming languages: Python, Go, or JavaScript/TypeScript

  • Experience with application testing and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD). This will come into play with building and maintaining solutions that the AI team will own and support.

  • Project management experience. You are capable of leading and driving projects, such as proof-of-concept and the rollout of a new technical solution organization-wide.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. You will be expected to participate and lead office hours. You must be able to articulate technical concepts to engineers, non-engineers, and executives.

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform.

  • Experience with public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP, Oracle), and on-prem infrastructure.

  • Deep understanding of containers and how container orchestration systems work, such as Kubernetes

  • Displays a passion for learning and exploring new technologies

  • A self-starter with a strong sense of ownership

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a proactive approach to challenges

The Hiring Process
